The Graffiti BoxMen are a series of Toronto based installations commenting on the role of graffiti art in the urban environment. Constructed by artists to represent artists, The Graffiti BoxMen serve as symbolic placeholders for supporters of graffiti, who often remain faceless due to the illegal nature of the art.
Graffiti remains as one of the most misunderstood and misrepresented forms of expression, regardless of the fact that it has been around since the dawn of humanity. Most see graffiti and instantly associate it with gangs and a degrading environment, however most graffiti “writers” are artists who seek to express themselves to a public audience, often straying from such criminal behaviour in the pursuit of their art.

Currently our mayor has taken it upon himself to wipe out all graffiti, often targeting the murals and art projects as well. The Graffiti BoxMen project is a challenge to Toronto to embrace this culture as it has all others, allowing for a beautification of our not so beautiful city. Build your own Graffiti BoxMan today and show Toronto that there are physical people out who support this great art!
